Glossary of Terms
FAO – Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations, an international group committed to achieving food security. The Secretariat of the IPPC is appointed from this group.
IPPC – International Plant Protection Convention, an international agreement on plant health among 181 signatories. It aims to protect both cultivated and wild plant by preventing the introduction and spread of pests.
NAPPO – North American Plant Protection Organization, a forum for public and private sectors in Canada, the United States and Mexico to collaborate in the regional protection of agricultural, forest, other plant resources, and the environment while facilitating trade.
Phenology – The biological timing of natural events.
RPPO – Regional Plant Protection Organization, usually the group that National Plant Protection groups report to.
Septa – A type of pheromone lure that is placed inside the trap. It should not be handled with bare hands, and never rolled along the glue board of a trap.
Technically Valid – The decisions you make about pest risk management are based on scientific history and evidence.
